GRIT Leader Mentorship Training Program

At The GRIT Foundation, we believe that every student, especially those on the autism spectrum, deserves the chance to grow, thrive, and pursue their potential. The GRIT Leader Mentorship Training Program is designed to equip high school and college volunteers with the skills and confidence needed to mentor students with autism, guiding them through academic and social challenges while celebrating their unique strengths.

What Is the GRIT Leader Mentorship Training Program?

The GRIT Leader Mentorship Training Program is a 6 session comprehensive training experience for volunteers who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with autism. Our program focuses on building leadership, communication, and advocacy skills that empower mentors to provide effective, compassionate support.

As a GRIT Leader, you’ll not only help students navigate their educational and social lives, but you’ll also grow personally by developing leadership qualities that will benefit you in your own academic and career journey.

Impact Statement for the GRIT Mentorship Program for High School and College Volunteers

At the heart of the GRIT Leader Mentorship Training program is the belief that every student, regardless of ability, deserves to feel included, empowered, and capable of achieving their dreams. For too long, students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have faced barriers that limit their access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Through this program, we are changing that narrative—one mentor and one mentee at a time.

This Mentorship Training program will directly impact both Autistic students and the mentors who serve them. For the mentees, this program will offer not only practical guidance but also a sense of belonging. Through meaningful relationships, these students will gain confidence, social skills, and resilience. They will be encouraged to set ambitious goals and empowered to overcome the challenges they face. As they build trust with their mentors, they will discover that their dreams are not out of reach but attainable through perseverance and support.

For the high school and college mentors, this program offers the chance to lead with empathy and purpose. These young leaders will learn what it means to advocate for inclusion, and they will leave the program not only with leadership skills but also with a deep understanding of the power of teamwork. As they witness the growth and achievements of their mentees, they too will grow—becoming champions for equity and inclusion in their schools, workplaces, and future endeavors.

In its first year alone, the GRIT Leader Mentorship Training program will create lasting impacts for hundreds of students, laying the foundation for a lifetime of leadership and resilience. Every interaction, every achievement, and every barrier broken will be a testament to the power of mentorship, and your support will make this life-changing journey possible.

With your help, we can ensure that Autistic students are no longer left on the sidelines but are instead given the opportunity to shine—because they belong, and they are capable of greatness. Together, we are building a more inclusive future.
